All That Remains

‘All That Remains’ (2018) is an experimental film by young filmmaker Zena AbdelBaky. It’s an exploration of of a young couple’s past relationship through the subtext of their conversation. The story takes place in Cairo, Egypt, but is entirely in English since it’s a more widely understood language and therefore reach more people.

The film was written and directed by Zena AbdelBaky, a young filmmaker born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. The film won best short film in the Female FEEDBACK Film Festival in Toronto in 2018. It entered several other festivals, and got into the semi-finalists of the Jelly Film Festival in Los Angeles which have said about the film: “We mean it when we say this is a must watch!”. The inspiration came to AbdelBaky while studying directing and the emphasis on the subtext rather than the actual dialogue, this showed true in all her interactions, and she then decided to translate that onto the screen.
